Culture Wise Canada

Description

The Essential Guide to Culture, Customs & Business Etiquette

Travellers often underestimate the depth of cultural isolation they can face abroad, particularly in a country with a different language. To many people, Canada must seem an ‘easy’ option, with its long history of immigration, multicultural society and millions of annual visitors. However, sooner or later most newcomers find certain aspects of Canadian life alien – and some come unstuck as a result. Culture Wise Canada will help you understand Canada and its people, and adapt to the Canadian way of life. Most importantly, it will enable you to quickly feel at home.

Inside you’ll discover:

  • How to deal with and overcome culture shock
  • The historical & political background to modern Canada
  • Canadian attitudes & values – at home and at work
  • Do’s, don’ts & taboos
  • How to enjoy yourself the Canadian way
  • Business & professional etiquette
  • Canada’s spoken & body language
  • Getting around Canada safely
  • Shopping the Canadian way

The Culture Wise series of guides is essential reading for visitors who want to understand how a country really works. Whether you’re planning to stay for a few days or a lifetime, they will help you find you feet after arrival, settle in smoothly and integrate into your new surroundings.

Culture Wise guides reduce the anxiety factor in adapting to a foreign culture; explain how to behave in everyday situations in order to avoid cultural and social gaffes; help you get along with neighbours, make friends and establish lasting business contacts; and enhance your understanding of a country and its people.

Reviews

I bought this book as an accompaniment to Living and Working in Canada by the same publisher (Survival Books) as I was so pleased with that book. I thoroughly recommended Culture Wise Canada for anyone who wants to know more about the Canadians without finding out the hard way and am happy to be the first to review this book! It's a very interesting, easy read and gives you some really helpful advice on how to fit into Canadian life and be part of their culture. Full of things you really din't know you needed to know, but now I'm glad I do! I couldn't put the book down, each paragraph was short but informative and I recommend it as a real interesting read, not boring long pages but quick easy snippets of info. Brilliant! - Jason, Amazon
