The Essential Guide to Culture, Customs & Business Etiquette

Travellers often underestimate the depth of cultural isolation they can face abroad, particularly in a country with a different language. To many people, France must seem an ‘easy’ option, with its millions of visitors from around the globe and hundred’s of thousands of foreign residents. However, sooner or later most newcomers find France a very ‘foreign’ country indeed – and many come unstuck as a result. Culture Wise France will help you understand France and its people, and adapt to the French way of life. Most importantly, it will enable you to quickly feel at home.

Inside you’ll discover:

? How to deal with and overcome culture shock

? The historical & political background to modern France

? French attitudes & values – at home and at work

? Do’s, don’ts & taboos

? How to enjoy yourself the French way

? Business & professional etiquette

? France’s spoken & body language

? Getting around France safely

? Shopping the French way

The Culture Wise series of guides is essential reading for visitors who want to understand how a country really works. Whether you’re planning to stay for a few days or a lifetime, they will help you find you feet after arrival, settle in smoothly and integrate into your new surroundings.

Culture Wise guides reduce the anxiety factor in adapting to a foreign culture; explain how to behave in everyday situations in order to avoid cultural and social gaffes; help you get along with neighbours, make friends and establish lasting business contacts; and enhance your understanding of a country and its people.

he author is clearly a francophile and the book contains a wealth of information in a very readable style, but what I like most was how honest it also is, e.g. on food - no doubt the French are great at food, but you can also get bored with it as menus can become predictable and with little choice. - GM12, Amazon

I moved to France from North America but I did find many things here
a little different and I am not talking about language. Reading the book helped
me get a understanding and answer to some questions I had. It is one
thing to visit a country for a couple of weeks but to live in a different
country you do need to understand the culture or you will have problems.
I am extremely happy I purchased the book.

Joe Laredo's Culture Wise: France is a must for anyone contemplating travel or settling down in France. The author's witty, slightly snarky insights, have been a huge aid to me while trying to navigate the serpentine French system and culture. If you're looking for an amusing, informative guide to France, you won't find a better one on the market. - Chris, Amazon

Great book for learning cultural norms. Especially if you are moving to France. You can really make some big mistakes if you do not understand the customs. - J Kyle, Amazon

I own a large number of books on France, but I have to say this one really introduces readers to a vast array of hints, tips and customs, and really does make France a little less 'foreign'...I will go there armed with more cultural knowledge than I had ever anticipated - Well done Joe Laredo!! - R. Bruce-Kidman, Amazon
